Physical activity and exercise play important roles in managing multiple sclerosis. While the benefits of physical activity and exercise for individuals with less disability are well-established, the effects in people with more advanced multiple sclerosis, i.e. those who use assistive devices or are non-ambulatory, are less clear. Less is known about the factors that influence people with more advanced or severe forms of multiple sclerosis to participate in physical activity and exercise, and considerations for people living specifically in Australia.
We hope to explore the experiences of Australians with advanced multiple sclerosis engaging with physical activity and exercise via an online survey and semi-structured interviews. The goal is to inform physical activity and exercise clinical practices that align with the unique needs of individuals with advanced multiple sclerosis within Australia’s healthcare system.
