Brief Summary

Dietary intervention is involved for several of the ‘Adapting your lifestyle: a guide for people with MS’ guidelines for improving the quality of life for those living with MS. Regardless of the importance of dietary intervention as part of a holistic approach to managing MS, there is limited research on how lifestyle, environmental, interpersonal, intrinsic, or systematic factors can impact a person living with MS’s ability to follow an eating pattern to improve their health.

This study aims to discover the enablers or facilitators of following an eating pattern for someone living with MS, and additionally the barriers that prevent adherence to a dietary pattern. This study will use a cross-sectional online survey to identify the common barriers and enablers to following a dietary pattern for people living with MS.

The survey will target Australian residents aged 18+ that have been clinically diagnosed with MS. The survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes and will produce valuable information that can be to help recommend or develop dietary interventions for those living with MS in the future. The survey will be open From June to approx. August 2025. The study is led by a UOW dietetics student in their honour’s year, with supervision from two UOW researchers who are also qualified dietitians, Prof Yasmine Probst and PhD Candidate Karen Zoszak. All communication between the respondents and the research team will be via the survey, and respondents will be fully de-identified and non-contactable after the survey completion. The data from this survey will be used to improve healthcare for people living with MS.

The survey can be accessed here.
